"Last night, I had a dream about a dead animal. In my dream, I woke up to a soft sound at my window. Tap. Tap. Tap. I opened my eyes. A small bird sat on the windowsill. Blue and gray. A sparrow, maybe. It tapped the glass with its beak again. Tap. Tap. I opened the window slowly. "Hey, little one," I whispered. "Are you lost?" The bird did not fly away. It just sat there, looking at me with small black eyes. I reached out my hand. It let me pick it up. Its body was warm. Its heart beat fast against my fingers. I could feel it. So small. So alive. "Don't be afraid," I said. "I'll help you." I put it in a small box with a soft towel. I gave it water and some bread crumbs. It did not eat. It just looked at me. All day, I watched it. It did not sing. It did not move much. It only breathed. In and out. Small breaths. In the evening, I checked the box. The bird lay on its side. Its eyes were closed. Its chest did not move. "No," I whispered. "No, no, no." I touched it gently. Cold. Stiff. Gone. I held it in my hands and cried. Big tears dropped on its soft feathers. It was so small. So light. Like holding a leaf. "Why?" I asked the quiet room. "Why did you come to me just to die?" No answer. Just the wind outside. I buried it under the big tree in the yard. I made a small cross from sticks. "I'm sorry," I said. "I tried to save you." Then I woke up. My cheeks were wet with real tears. My hands were empty. All day, I felt heavy. I kept thinking about the little bird. How it trusted me. How I failed it. Maybe the dream means something. Maybe it's about the small, fragile things in life. They need our care. And sometimes, even our best is not enough. That evening, I put a small bowl of water on my windowsill. Just in case another bird needs it."

Jungian Analysis
Core Theme

"This dream centers on the archetype of the fragile messenger, a small bird that arrives at your window as an image of hope, trust, and the vulnerable parts of your own soul. Its death does not mean failure; it points to the painful limits of human care and to the grief that accompanies loving something mortal. The dream invites you toward individuation by integrating sadness, tenderness, and humility without losing compassion."

Honor the sadness you felt; it reveals how deeply you can love and care for vulnerable beings. Release the false belief that you must save everyone, for some losses are not yours to prevent. Create small rituals of compassion, like the bowl of water, to transform grief into continued tenderness.
