Trapped in the Shifting Smoke of Lost Identity Meaning & Interpretation

"I woke up in the middle of a massive, empty room filled with thick, gray smoke drifting across the floor. Long, twisting clouds rose up to the ceiling, curling into strange shapes that looked like faces, doorways, and hallway paths. Every time I stepped toward what looked like an exit, the smoke shifted and dissolved, leaving me staring at a solid wall. I turned around to go back the way I came, but my own footprints in the vapor had completely disappeared. I called out for help, but my voice seemed to get absorbed by the heavy fog, making no sound at all. Shadows moved behind the gray curtains, but when I reached out to touch them, my hands passed through empty air. Nothing in the room stayed the same for more than a few seconds. Arrows painted on the floor appeared to point forward, but when I walked that direction, I ended up right back where I started. I stood still in the middle of the drifting haze, completely unsure of which way was real or how to find my way out."
