"She was standing at the end of the aisle in the grocery store. Yellow coat. I know that coat. I haven't seen it in years. I pushed my cart toward her but the aisle kept going. You know how it does. I wasn't even buying anything, just holding a single lemon. Weird. She turned and her face was almost right. Almost. Like a photo of her someone described to me. I tried to say her name but my mouth was full of bread. Where did the bread come from. I wasn't scared though. I just wanted her to wait. She smiled at me like it was fine. Like, it's okay that you're late. And then she was in the checkout line and I was still by the lemons, and the cashier was beeping something over and over. I woke up and the beeping was my alarm and I was already crying before I opened my eyes. Which is embarrassing. It was just a grocery store."

Core Theme

"This dream reflects a tender encounter with a lost or distant figure, where the grocery store becomes a stage for unresolved longing and the quiet acceptance of missed timing. The inability to reach her, the bread in your mouth, and the lemon you hold all point to a grief that is not about fear but about the ache of almost-connection. The dream suggests that even in the mundane, your heart is processing a deep, patient sadness that asks only to be felt, not fixed."

Hidden Emotions and Symbols

✦ Yellow Coat

Represents a vivid memory of someone once close, now distant, whose presence still signals warmth and recognition.

✦ Endless Aisle

Reflects the feeling of being stuck in a moment that stretches on, where effort to reach someone is met with an impossible distance.

✦ Lemon

Indicates a single, simple object held without purpose, symbolizing the small, unresolved fragments of a relationship you carry.

✦ Bread In Mouth

Signifies an obstruction to speech and expression, where the words you most want to say are blocked by something ordinary and absurd.

✦ Alarm Beeping

Reflects the intrusion of daily reality that pulls you from the dream, yet the tears that follow show the emotion was real and not just a dream.

Insight

The dream is not about the grocery store; it is about the quiet grief of almost. You are not afraid of her, only of the distance that keeps you from closing it. The smile she gives you—'it's okay that you're late'—may be the forgiveness you need to offer yourself. Waking up crying is not embarrassing; it is your heart acknowledging a loss that daily life has not fully let you mourn.
