"I was at a family barbecue but the backyard was also a subway station. My uncle was there but looked exactly like my coworker Dave. He kept asking me to pass the potato salad but his mouth was just full of wet dirt. I didn't even feel mad, just really needed him to stop making that loud chewing sound. Grabbed a rusty garden trowel from the grass. Stabbed him right in the chest. No blood at all, just dry potting soil spilling out onto the concrete. He didn't even fall over. Then abruptly I'm in a brightly lit IKEA. Pushing a flatbed cart full of the soil. Dave is walking right next to me totally fine, asking if I want meatballs. I just felt this massive wave of relief that the chore was finally done. Woke up feeling weirdly accomplished."
Jungian Analysis
Core Theme

"This dream reflects a surreal collision between family obligation and the mundane structures of daily life, where a figure of authority becomes a hollow vessel filled with dry earth. The absence of blood and the calm aftermath suggest that what you are truly severing is not a personify but a burdensome, repetitive demand—one that has been draining you without your conscious anger. The relief and sense of accomplishment upon waking indicate that your psyche is reclaiming energy from a chore or relationship that had become mechanical and lifeless."

Hidden Emotions and Symbols

✦ Uncle With Dave's Face

Represents the blurring of family and work roles, where personal history and professional pressure merge into a single, demanding presence.

✦ Wet Dirt In Mouth

Reflects a voice or communication that is suffocating, unwholesome, and impossible to digest, blocking genuine exchange.

✦ Rusty Garden Trowel

Indicates a small, neglected tool of cultivation turned into an instrument of severance, suggesting that even humble resources can end a stagnant pattern.

✦ Dry Potting Soil Spilling Out

Signifies that the figure was hollow and replaceable, containing nothing vital—only sterile, packaged material that can be carted away.

✦ Ikea With Flatbed Cart

Reflects a bright, orderly, consumer-driven world where the aftermath of conflict is reduced to a manageable task, and relief comes from completing a chore rather than from violence.

Wisdom

When a demand becomes hollow and mechanical, you do not need rage to end it—only a quiet, decisive act. The relief you feel is not cruelty but the reclaiming of your own energy from a lifeless obligation. Let the dry soil be carted away, and allow yourself the simple, bright reward of being done.
