"It started with the front one. Just loosened. I pushed it with my tongue and it tipped forward like a door with one hinge gone. I reached in and took it out. No blood. No pain. Just this little white thing in my hand. I looked in the mirror and there was a gap. I remember thinking, okay, that's one, I can handle one. Then the other one went. The one next to it. Same thing. Loose, then out. I didn't even pull this time. It just fell into my palm. I tried to put them back in. They wouldn't go. The holes were wrong. Too small, then too deep. I kept pushing and they'd just sink in and disappear and I'd fish them out again. My mom called from downstairs asking if I wanted dinner. I said "yeah" and my voice sounded fine. That's what I keep thinking about. My voice was fine. I woke up and my tongue went straight to the front teeth. Both there. Solid. I sat there pressing them with my thumb for a minute. Got up. Brushed. Looked in the mirror a long time before I left."
