"Married for about 2 years, together with my husband for about 8 years total, and perfectly happy. Basically it’s not super often, but maybe once a month or every few months I’ll have a dream that I’m dating one of my exes, usually from university but sometimes even from secondary school, which was like 12 years ago. I don’t miss these guys, and I don’t follow them on social media, but a lot of the time I’ll wake up from the dream and feel (a) guilty overall and (b) sometimes even slightly smitten, or maybe it’s better to say nostalgic for the good times, which makes me feel even more guilty because I’m married to a wonderful guy. Does anyone else get these dreams, or is something wrong with me?"

Spiritual Analysis
Core Theme

"This dream reflects a normal psychological process where your mind revisits past relationships not as a sign of disloyalty, but as a way to integrate nostalgic feelings and unresolved emotional patterns. The guilt and smitten feelings upon waking are common and indicate that you are navigating the boundary between past identity and present commitment, not that something is wrong with you."

Hidden Emotions and Symbols

✦ Ex-Boyfriend

Represents a past version of yourself and the emotional lessons from earlier relationships, not a current desire.

✦ Dating In Dream

Reflects a mental rehearsal of intimacy and nostalgia, allowing you to process old feelings without real-world consequences.

✦ Guilt Upon Waking

Indicates a strong moral compass and fear of betraying your husband, highlighting your commitment rather than any actual threat.

✦ Nostalgia For Good Times

Signifies a healthy longing for carefree youth and the need to integrate positive memories into your present life.

✦ Husband

Represents security and present happiness, serving as the stable backdrop against which these fleeting dreams are safely explored.

Guidance

These dreams are not a sign of something wrong with you; they are your brain's way of filing away old emotional experiences. Allow the nostalgia without guilt, and use it as a reminder to bring playful energy into your marriage. If the guilt persists, talk to your husband about it—you may find he has similar dreams.
