"Last night I had a dream where my sister and I were standing at the edge of the ocean in about knee-high water, kids splashing around us, a hazy gray sky. All of a sudden the water begins to pull back toward the horizon, slipping away from our ankles as if it were being drawn into a giant, growing ocean wave. A few seconds pass and I feel a drizzle of water fall from above, and my sister and I look up as an enormous shadow spreads over us. It's an ocean wave, roughly the height of a office tower. I feel a creeping dread, because it's certain we are about to be swallowed by it. I remember wondering if we should try to dive beneath the wave like I do at the beach on summer trips, just for fun with my cousins. But at the height of this one, that would be pointless, so I grab my sister's hand, and the drizzle quickly turns into a heavy, violent crash, and we're hurled deep underwater. After another few seconds I feel myself being dragged back out to sea, an unstoppable force. I feel minuscule. I see myself inside this newly rising ocean wave from high above, like a speck of dust in a bathtub. Suddenly I'm lifted up into the sky as I sit on top of a wave that is getting ready to crash down. Like the brief hush at the top of a roller coaster before the drop, the wave I was in reached its peak, and I could see the harbor, the crowds, miles of beach and palm trees. I feel my stomach begin to sink as the speed gradually builds and the wave starts to fall. So huge and silent. So natural and terrifying. Then I woke up in a bit of a panic, haha."
