"I was cradling a massive, weakened eagle against my chest, its broad wings spread wide and its heavy head tucked tightly into the curve of my neck as if glued to my skin. I held its warm, shivering body close, stroking its feathers while I stepped onto a crowded city bus and casually chatted with the passengers around me, none of whom seemed at all surprised to see a wild predator in my arms. As the bus rattled down the road, I could feel its ragged breathing gradually steadying against my ribs, its claws slowly relaxing their tight grip as strength returned to its talons. When we pulled up to an open field, I gently unclasped my arms, watching it launch into the bright sky with a powerful thrust of its wings. I woke up with a deep, lingering warmth in my chest, feeling completely centered and at ease."
