"I noticed a splinter lodged in my hand, a dark little line just under the skin. It bothered me, so I pinched the skin around it and squeezed. Something moved. A strange, wriggling thing pushed its way out, a parasite of some kind, and as I watched, it unfolded and changed shape until it became a praying mantis, thin and green, balanced on my palm. My stomach turned. I flung it off, and it scuttled away across the floor. I didn't chase it. I was terrified that if I tried to catch it, it would burrow back under my skin, so I let it go and stood there staring at my hand, checking for any more movement. When I woke up, my skin was crawling. I looked at my hand right away and rubbed it, half expecting to find something there. The creepy feeling faded slowly, and the thought of something living under my skin stayed with me for a while."

"This dream reflects a moment of unsettling self-discovery in which something hidden and unwanted within you transforms into a creature of poised stillness. The fear of it burrowing back suggests a wary relationship with your own inner life—you sense that what you release may not be fully gone, and that vigilance is part of the process."
