Sharks, fishing, and the fish I gave Back

"I'm on a pier fishing. Normal. And there's two sharks in the water below. Big ones. Circling. Just going around and around the pier. And I can see them, those dark shapes, those fins, and I keep casting. Because I'm fishing. That's what I came to do. This kid next to me asked if I was scared and I said "no" and kept casting. And I meant it. I wasn't scared. I was annoyed. Because they kept scaring the fish. Every time I felt a bite the line would go slack and I'd look down and one of them would be right there, just under the surface, looking up at me. Not aggressive. Just. Looking. Then my line went tight. Big one. And I reeled and reeled and the sharks were watching and I pulled up this fish, decent size, and held it up. And one of the sharks breached. Just. Came up out of the water. Right next to the pier. And hung there for a second. Looking at my fish. Then fell back. And I stood there holding this fish and thought "okay, that was for you." And I threw it back. Not for the shark. Just. Felt right. I woke up and my hands smelled like fish. Weirdly. Didn't go fishing that day. Didn't want to."
