Lost in a familiar City: Finding your Inner compass

"I was walking somewhere I'd been before, but every street looked slightly wrong. I kept recognizing things--the red door, the bus stop, a restaurant with yellow lights--but none of them were where they were supposed to be. I was trying to get home, although I couldn't remember my address. My phone was in my hand, but the map only showed a blank gray screen. I asked a man standing outside a shop for directions, and he gave me a piece of paper with my own handwriting on it. I couldn't read what it said. Then I was suddenly inside a hotel. I thought the lobby would lead back outside, but all the doors opened into bedrooms. People were sleeping in some of them, and in one room my dog was sitting on the bed. I tried to call her, but she looked away like she didn't know me. I found a staircase and went down for what felt like forever. The stairs eventually turned into a sidewalk beside a school. I was sure I knew the way from there, so I started walking faster. A few minutes later I was back in the hotel lobby. The same man was still standing by the shop, even though there wasn't a shop anymore. He asked me if I had found what I was looking for. I said yes, but I had no idea what it was."
