Black snake in the childhood Basement of the mind

"i was at my childhood home but for some reason the hallway led straight into the basement of my middle school, and I had to go in there to find a specific blue mug i lost years ago. the lighting was really dim and yellow. i walked past a pile of unfolded clothes and suddenly realized there was this massive snake coiled right under the laundry basket. it wasn't a normal snake--it was as thick as a tree trunk, pitch black, but its scales had this weird oil-slick sheen that kept shifting colors whenever it moved. i completely froze. i didn't want to look at it, but i couldn't turn away either. my chest felt so heavy, like I couldn't draw in enough air to scream. then it slowly lifted its head up, way higher than it should've been able to, and just stared at me with these completely dull, pale eyes. it didn't rattle or hiss or anything, which made it ten times worse. it just opened its mouth really wide and started sliding toward me without making a single sound. i tried to step backward, but my legs felt like they were stuck in thick wet cement. right as its face was inches away from mine, the floor beneath me just vanished and i woke up gasping."
