Broken cart, red Apple, and goodbye in gray Fog

"i was pushing a shopping cart with a broken wheel down the cereal aisle, but for some reason i kept checking my pocket to make sure i hadn't forgotten my passport. then i turned into the produce section and he was just standing there by the apples, wearing that faded green jacket he used to wear in college. we didn't even say hello, but there was this overwhelming feeling that all the hurt from the breakup was just gone and we were getting ingredients to cook dinner together at our old place. he reached over and handed me a red apple, and when his fingers brushed mine it felt so intensely real, like i could feel the actual warmth of his skin. i opened my mouth to ask him why he took so long to reach out, but then the store around us just faded into this quiet, empty parking lot covered in gray fog. he was walking away from me toward the streetlights, not running, just casually walking into the mist. i tried to call out his name, but my voice was completely gone. i just stood there next to the abandoned cart, watching him disappear into the gray, feeling this huge, heavy ache in my chest because i knew once he stepped past the fog he was gone for good."
