The unremembered Voice

"I was sitting in the passenger seat while my father drove. I don't know where we were going, and he wouldn't tell me, but I wasn't worried at first. The car looked like his old car, even though the inside was completely different. We drove past my childhood house, except it was on the wrong side of the road. I asked him if he remembered it, and he said we had never lived there. I started arguing with him about it, which felt silly because I could see my bedroom window. Then the road turned into a narrow bridge over dark water. My father kept driving faster, and I asked him to slow down. He said he knew the way, but there were no signs and the bridge seemed to keep stretching ahead. Suddenly we were parked outside a grocery store. He got out and told me to wait in the car. I watched him walk inside wearing a jacket I'd never seen before. When I followed him, the store was empty except for rows of clocks. I found him near the back, standing beside a shopping cart. He looked at me and asked why I had taken so long. I wanted to ask where we were going, but I couldn't remember what his voice sounded like. I woke up before he answered."
