"The house is haunted. Doors opening on their own. Cold spots. Whispers. The whole thing. And I'm walking around like "sorry, excuse me, just getting some water." Stepping around the cold spots. Apologizing when a door slammed. "Sorry, didn't mean to disturb you." A glass slid off the counter and shattered and I said "no worries, I'll get it." Swept it up. And I could feel something watching me from the hallway. And I just kept sweeping. Humming a little. And I thought "I should probably be scared" but I wasn't. It was their house too, kind of. I was just living in it. I went to bed and the covers pulled themselves up. Tucked me in. And I said "thanks." Out loud. And the light clicked off on its own. And I lay there in the dark and I felt fine. Safe, even. Like something was looking out for me. I woke up and my blanket was up to my chin. I always kick it off. But it was up to my chin. I lay there a second. Then I said "thanks" again. Just in case."
