The snake Under the covers

"I was getting into bed, half asleep even in the dream, and my foot touched something under the covers that wasn't a blanket. cool, smooth, shifting a little. froze completely, didn't even pull back, just lay there hoping I'd imagined it. I lifted the sheet slowly and it was there, long and dull green, coiled near my knees, not moving much. I couldn't tell if it was asleep or just waiting. My heart was slamming but my body wouldn't do anything, like being glued to the mattress. I tried to call for my mom, who I think was in another room, and no sound came out. the bed felt bigger than it should, sheets stretching on forever, and I lost track of where the snake was. Then I was standing in a hallway with no memory of getting out. I woke up kicking at the covers, checking my legs."
