The bear at the window: A gentle Warning

"I was picking tomatoes in my backyard when I heard branches snapping near the fence. At first I thought it was a dog, but then I saw a bear standing by the shed. It was huge, but its fur looked matted and wet, like it had been out in the rain. I backed toward the house without turning around. The bear didn't charge. It just watched me while eating something from the garden, maybe the tomatoes I had dropped. Inside, my mom was making coffee and told me not to worry because bears only come around when they're hungry. I looked out the window, and the bear was standing on the porch now. I asked her to lock the door, but she kept stirring her coffee. Then I was in my bedroom, and the bear was outside the window, close enough that I could see its breath fogging the glass. I remember feeling sorry for it. I opened the window an inch to see if it wanted food. I woke up before anything happened, but I kept checking the backyard."
