"I was wandering the Target parking lot when the sky turned bruised purple. Then I saw it—a massive wall of water coming over the highway. But it was moving in slow motion, like a buffering video. Nobody was running. I was just so terrified, but my panic was entirely focused on the fact that I hadn't rolled up my car windows. I kept frantically pressing the unlock button on my key fob. The water hit, but it didn't crash. It just filled the lot like a bathtub. Suddenly I’m inside my Honda, but the backseat is full of wet sand. My mom is in the passenger seat, calmly knitting a scarf out of seaweed. I'm screaming at her to put on a seatbelt, but she just hands me a dripping rotary phone. It's ringing. I answer it and it's just the sound of crushing ice. Woke up gripping my phone charger."
