"I was out on a walk, the air calm and the path ordinary, when I felt something warm run from my nose. I touched my lip and my fingers came away red. A nosebleed. I had never had one before, but I didn't stop. I kept walking, the blood still coming, unsure whether I should be worried. The dream was vivid, clear down to the color of the blood and the feel of it on my skin. When I woke up, it stayed with me, though I didn't think much of it at first. Then the next day at work, a patient came in with a nosebleed that would not stop. She declined quickly, and then she coded. There were chest compressions, intubation, and her blood was all over me. She nearly died. Now I can't stop thinking about the two together. I felt shaken and unsettled, with a creeping sense of "how could I have seen that coming?" The dream and the day keep replaying side by side in my mind."
