Torn bills and the unfinished Treasure hunt

"I was walking through a mall parking lot, drifting between the rows of cars with nothing in particular on my mind. Then I saw something green near a curb. It was a bill, crumpled and waiting. I picked it up and kept walking. The places kept changing, empty streets, an industrial yard, a stretch of bushes behind a building, but the pattern stayed the same. I peered behind crates and under shrubs, and money turned up everywhere, mostly bills, sometimes a few coins. This time, something was different. What I found were not whole bills but torn pieces, scraps of paper with bits of numbers and faces on them. I collected them anyway, one by one, tucking them into my pocket and wondering whether they could ever fit back together. When I woke up, I lay still, thinking right away of all the earlier dreams. I felt curious and a little puzzled, with a faint sense of something unfinished, as if I had been halfway through a treasure hunt."
